Strings make a beautiful noise.
Feb. 28th, 2005 09:07 amMy daughter was in a strings concert on Saturday, and I was blown away at how good those kids sounded. The concert opened with about 30 8th graders playing the Star Spangled Banner, and a little bit later the 150 or so 5th graders played a few selections. The high school honors strings groups played The Entertainer (another one that blew me away as I cannot imagine how difficult it must be to get those notes out so quickly on anything other than a piano), and then the 5th graders played again. I swear to you, I didn't hear a single note out of place...they were that good. And to think that she's only renting a school viola...I made up my mind then and there to somehow get her her own GOOD instrument. They're way pricy, but she's always expressed an interest in carrying this thing through middle school and high school, and if she follows through with that, we could be seeing college scholarships and such in the future, so it may be worth the investment. Not that at this age, would I get her a REALLY nice one, but surely something better than the cheap one she's been able to rent from the school. She's shown that she can be responsible with that one, so that helps the decision as well.
Aside from that, the weekend was fairly normal. Went shooting again with C and his dad, and this time I got to fire the .45 and a 9mm carbine rifle with a scope...that was pretty cool. I'd made dinner for both of the men the night before, and after we ate, we went over to C's dad's house to watch a movie, during which I prompty fell fast asleep. I dunno what's wrong with me lately, but when nighttime hits, I almost feel drugged...that's how sleepy I get.
My girlfriend from work called me last night to tell me about a fight she'd had with her boyfriend that got pretty intense. :( She's taking today off, and I'm hoping she got some sleep like I told her to do, and that she's feeling okay today. *insert psychic will for her to call me soon*
I worked on updating the soccer site, and got it rolling pretty well last night...*thinks*...yeah, that's pretty much it. Nothing big and thrilling to talk about, except, oh, did I mention? My kid rocks on the viola. ;)
