The latest weather forecast shows thunderstorms all weekend. Lovely for the garden, not so lovely for Chris and I as we take the safety class. :( Good thing I learned the basics on my own!
I have amazingly bad hair today. In an attempt to grow it out past my shoulders, I've been babying it whenever possible, and not blow-drying it if I don't have to, and twisting it up in a big clip on the weekends, and really just not torturing it the way I've done since I was a teen in the '80's. It's been working, but now it also lies limply atop my head as if it's sleeping. I suppose that's okay...it's a rainyish day outside and I can always blame it on the weather, not that anyone would say anything. But I've hit that point in my life where I can look into a mirror with a rather disconnected mindset, and make observations about myself as if my body belonged to someone different. So yes, I have amazingly bad hair today, but you know? I actually don't care. Heh.
I informed the kids last night that they'd be doing their own laundry from now on. We'll see how that goes. I'm sure, being a mom, I'll still do some of it (you know, just to complete loads, right?), but we'll see how they do on their own. They're 10 and 12, so I guess I should be ready to see lots of pink undies. :p I posted directions in the laundry room but haven't gone over them with the kids yet, so maybe that'll start next week. They groaned as if this was a chore assigned because I'm a mean mom...I really just want to prepare them for the real world, though.
I also informed them that one night a week, they each will get to prepare dinner (with my help.) They'll choose the menu (it must be balanced, and it's okay if they select a veggie that they PERSONALLY don't like, as long as others in the house will eat it), and I'll help them make it, but will only give help as needed. They'll learn kitchen safety and hopefully will emerge from the house with an arsenal of things they know how to make. :) This should be fun. If anyone wants to swing by to sample kid-fare, just say the word!
I'm keeping busy at work by doing busy-work types of things which usually frustrate me, but today they don't seem so bad. Maybe because it's a gray day out and it's not making me want to use my head. I'll take breaks to read bits of PB&G stories, to read whatever's been added to my friends page, to visit various websites, and to check email. Helps to pass the day pretty quickly. Oh, and at some point, I'll balance my checkbook, heh. Sounds like a pretty full day to me, *yawn*.
Heh. Today's a day designed for staying in bed with a cat curled up next to you. Work, schmurk. :p Okay, enough...better post this and get back to work. I'm glad it's the weekend. :)
