KCRF, weekend 1

Had a lovely weekend with wonderful weather, good crowds, and the archery line was almost always busy. I believe we hit record numbers on the line for an opening weekend, hooray! I met loads of people...some re-met, as I'm notorious for forgetting names, some I've known for years but never had gotten their names before, and some brand-new friends that I hope/believe will become good friends as time goes on. :) I'm making a concerted attempt to ASK for people's names this year, so hopefully in time I'll remember who everyone is. :p I won't bother recapping in detail the whole weekend, but will indeed give you a few things from each day:
Saturday: At morning meeting for the archery line, Dean came up to Chris and I with a wonderful gift he'd been meaning to get to us. It was a wax (I think?) molding of a couple reclining together near some trees and a well, and in the foreground is a little sheep! Penny! :D We love it, and it will be hung in our home this week, for sure. :) Ran into mistressniniane later in the morning, who asked if Brenna (my daughter) was there and in garb and if she'd be interested in doing Parade with the Bard's Music (musik?) Shop's banner. I assured her Brenna would love to do it, and Brenna did, and continued to do so each day of the weekend. It was fun to catch glimpses of her as she trotted to catch up with the rest of the cast on parade. I'm reminded almost daily that she's turning into a lovely young woman, and I fear that within a few years, we'll be in trouble with the amount of boys that come a-knockin'. :o Wished we could have stayed for dinner with Amanda on Saturday night, but Chris had come down with a miserable cold (which he nicely passed on to me, come Sunday evening, heh), and the puppy had been caged up all day, so we headed home and just grabbed some Arby's on the way.
Sunday: I took a break from the archery line after lunch and wandered up to catch the Washer Well Wenches show at 2:-something. Holy cow, these girls are hilarious. If you've not yet had a chance to see them, make a point of doing so before the end of the run. Good, good stuff. When Chris and I both had a break later in the day, I pulled him over to their stage, and we caught a different show of theirs. I think I liked the earlier one a little better, but the second one was still funny. We made a stop at the petting zoo and I got my Penny (lamb) fix for the day. On Saturday we'd swung through there and had a good long talk with one of the ladies that runs it, as well. Also on Sunday, it was wonderful to see so many White Hart friends...it felt so GOOD to find people that I knew outside of KCRF, there playing with the people I know INSIDE of KCRF. :)
The obvious highlight of Sunday was Susi and Bruce's handfasting. This was my first ever TRUE handfasting...when Beth and Josh were married last spring, they included some elements of a handfasting, yes, but I'd never gotten to witness a full-blown, how-it-should-be sort of ceremony. It was very touching, and I leaked tears at a few parts. :) Both Susi and Bruce were glowing...I felt blessed to be able to attend.
As we headed home, it was my turn to whine about the pain in my throat. I swallowed down some nighttime medicine after a dinner of Taco Bell, and headed off to bed.
Monday: Last week sometime, I'd mentioned the possibility of taking a day off from Fest this weekend, but promptly forgot all about it. So when we got up on Monday, Chris reminded me that we were going to do that, and since we'd already told the archery folks that we'd be there on Monday, we decided we'd just go work half a day. Turned out nicely...we were on the road to home by 3pm. That gave us some time to get to the grocery store and such...things that really needed to be done. I took a half-nap on the couch to the tune of Judge Judy, and am feeling a little better this morning. Still not at 100%, but I imagine I'll be okay by tomorrow or Thursday, latest.
And..that's really about it. We won't be at fest this next weekend, as we've got soccer stuff with the kids on Saturday and Bikers for Babies on Sunday, but we'll be back the weekend following.
Get some sleep everyone! It's going to be a great year!

Date: 2006-09-05 04:26 pm (UTC)And if there are other kidlings down in your area that have done parade before and would like to do it when Brenna isn't there, would you please send them up to see either me or Rod before 11:15 on Saturdays? Be sure to have them tell us that Brenna's mom sent them.
Thanks!

Date: 2006-09-05 08:25 pm (UTC)Rod just wants them to show up on time, wave the banner while looking happy, and bring it back when the parade is finished; since (through my child connections) I know more of the families with youngsters there on site, he assumes that I can usually find someone to do the work. We can certainly use more possibles since my children are almost grown now.
