The weekend recap, a day late

Yessh, the drama of yesterday morning kind of overshadowed my weekend recap thoughts, but now I sit here reading about other people's pumpkin carving fun and I want to add in my own weekend stuff.
Friday night, after I dropped the kids off at their dad's and then returned home, Chris took me out for a lovely romantic dinner at an Italian place we've never tried. It was veryVERY good, and just about actually worth the sticker shock we got when we saw the bill (who would have suspected that my steak - on special - was going to cost us $27.95??). 'Course that then drained his account and I had to loan him some cash so an autopayment coming out wouldn't bounce, but what the hell...we had a good time. ;) We skipped out on doing anything else costly the rest of the weekend, and instead went home to watch movies, heh.
Saturday morning brought another round of soccer games, yippee, and now we're done with games until indoor starts up for Brenna in January, YES!!! Saturday afternoon, we went and had our last supper at a BBQ place that a coworker of Chris's owns and was closing down. Then we took the bikes out for a quick ride to the gas station...on the way back, I took a turn a little too quickly and got rather spooked. I KNOW better than to do that, but it'd been a few weeks since I'd ridden and I wasn't paying as close of attention as I should have been. Won't do that again. Saturday evening, we headed over to Amanda's house for some scary movie watching. Much Rotel dip and popcorn was consumed.
Sunday morning I awoke bright and early and got busy cleaning up the house, ran to the grocery store, made/prepped a few things for my spooky Halloween feast for tonight, and got most of the laundry run.
When Chris got up, we took the bikes out again for a longer ride. I was still feeling a little spooked from my fast turn the day before, so when Chris wanted me to go around a culdesac, and I stopped the bike to powerwalk it around instead and then he chided me for doing so, I just about snapped his head off. I felt terrible about it, but dammit, I was scared and only on the bike because he wanted to go for a ride and I felt like a big baby for not wanting to go. I was determined to shake off the fear before I garaged the bike for the winter, and who knows when we'll have another warm day again, right? We rode the rest of the ride in silence, though I did apologize at a stop sign. The tension between us was palpable, at least to me, so when I started getting whacked in the face with monster bugs (one felt like a cicada and it popped me right in the lip...no clue what it was exactly, just knew it was huge and felt like I'd been beaten with a rock that had wings that I had to blow off my face), I actually started crying. Yeah, nice. I'm bawling as I'm riding down Hwy 58, out in the country, feeling like a stupid big baby even more than ever now. *sigh* Eventually I shook it off (sometimes you just have to cry, even if it makes no sense, right?), and we rode home and things were okay again. *rolls her eyes* Whatever.
I went back to work prepping things for Halloween, and when the kids got home and dinner was done, we carved our pumpkins. Both kids carved their own, and this year Brenna actually cleaned out her own pumpkin, woohoo! Chris took his snake-looking gourd and hollowed it out as best he could. If we stick a stick of incense inside, the top of the snake smokes. Hah. Ehh, well, it was an experiment, and it still looks pretty cool.
Finally settled down on the couch to watch another movie (read: for me to fall asleep), and then headed to bed around 9:30 DST, 10:30 body-time.
Last night (Monday), Brenna had a choir concert for school...her group was really REALLY good...I can't wait to hear how they sound by year's end. It's crazy how good they are. The concert was broken into 5 groups...at the school, there's a select choir that kids audition for, and those who don't make the select choir go into either the Men's or Women's choir. There's another performing/drama group at the school called Operation Outreach, and the kids that don't make it into that group can join the Show Choir. Brenna's in both the select choir AND Operation Outreach (woohoo! The drama-skills have passed down through another generation!), so we got to see (in this order) the Show Choir (bless their little hearts, they were all over the place...they really need a new choreographer), the Men's choir (after which Connor turned to me and whispered, "Mom, there's another reason for me not to join choir", heh), the Women's choir (they were decent, but kind of quiet and shaky), then Brenna's 7th grade select and then the 8th grade select. Then all 5 groups gathered together (about 140+ kids in all) to sing one combined number. I really hope Brenna continues with the singing...when I hear her sing on her own around the house, she's rather quiet but exactly on key. 'Course, she could be quiet because she's embarrassed to sing in front of others (solo)...I'm that way, too. Anyway, I guess if she continues with the select choirs, she'll likely be able to join a Chamber Choir in high school. Crazy. It's not my favorite type of music, but I'll certainly admit it takes talent, and I'll (of course) totally back her if she goes that route. She's such a good kid. (I'll quit bragging now, hah)
Okay, I guess that wraps it up. I'm working an early shift today so that I can get home to cook some more...I'm totally stoked about tonight...Halloween is so fun!!! :D

Well maybe now that you've 'had it out' with both Cecile and your bike, things will be better on the driving front. There are times when I swear the machinery is just looking to cause a scene (kinda like 2-year-olds in the grocery store), and the only thing to do is let them work it out while you talk to them firmly and gently.

Sounds like you are having a great Halloween.
