Awhile back, I posted a link to a new candle company that was offering free sign-ups, as it was new, yada yada. Early last month, I'd placed an order for a couple of kits to get started, and to date have received the actual candles from one of the kits but was still waiting on the order forms, catalogs, and sample scents. Today I found out that the company has folded. Or maybe it was a scam. Or maybe it's just down temporarily and will be back up soon. Or maybe the neighbor of the lady who founded the company saw a U-Haul truck in the lady's driveway. Whatever, it doesn't sound as if this company's going to fly, and I may be out about $20. I had paid $50-ish for the two kits, but considering I did receive actual candles that I can burn and are nice, okay, I'll just eat the money for the unsent other stuff. I used PayPal, so am okay on the worry that she may have absconded with bank info, but still...she does have my name and address, so if she was really hell-bent on using my name for fraudulent reasons, she could. Note, however, that she had over 4,000 other consultants that had signed up, and some of those had invested hundreds of dollars and hadn't received anything yet, so I really could be worse off. But still, it sucks to get that kind of news.
In other unhappy news, Chris and I were slated to take a cruise in November, and have requested time off, etc. The catch was that the cruise was part of an incentive sort of thing, and we wouldn't know for sure if we would be able to get on it until a month prior to the cruise leaving. I called the company this morning and learned that nope, we won't be able to take the cruise. I had sent in money to cover port fees and such, and that will all be refunded, so, well, okay, no big deal other than dashed plans to go to Cozumel. *sigh* Yes, we do still have the time off, and yes we may still get to go do something fun, but still. Bleh. Time to re-plan our time away.
So...after lunch, I went out to the little Farmers Market thing that was being held in the parking lot of my workplace. And I bought Cinnamon Creamed Honey. And a jar of regular honey. Both from different local honey farmers. And some hot peppers. And got a few other hot peppers for free. And I bought a pretty mum-plant that's a beautiful deep maroon color. And some cheddar cheese bread, strawberry preserves, and two kinds of cookies from some Mennonite farmers.
So there.
I stick my tongue out to you, cruise-people, and to you, candle-people...I have home-grown goodness in little bags to take home with me, and that will make everything better.
I just know it will. :p

Date: 2006-10-10 06:46 pm (UTC)From the tone of some of the messages that came out, it appears that two people in authority decided to argue over who was entitled to what money, and one of them took a unilateral action (as in, clear the account and walk off). Sad...
I'm glad that you found good things to bring home instead. Makes it much better all the way around.
